Learned a lot about CML the other morning at Cruzio Works. I spoke about LOOK Magazine, and old photojournalism based magazine. Both LOOK and LIFE magazine can be found online. Hope you'll explore these two 'relics' of journalism. The strange thing about 'newspapers' online (Sentinel, Merc, SFGate) is that they're on a medium that really lends itself well to presenting photography. Photos 'pop' out and draw attention, and they tell a story. It would be great if folks at the sentinel studied the now online archives of LOOK and LIFE and see how they 'tell the story.' You folks might also want to look at what the NY TIMES does maybe once a week -- they choose a topic and have a few people write from a particular perspective on the issue, and a few people from the 'other side'. It lends itself to the kinds of things the CML bloggers might do... group interests under a menu heading.... just some thoughts. But online news should really be interesting, it should be like LIFE, it should be something you want to LOOK at!

I found the calculator showing the Medicaid cutoff point as $15,856, where one more dollar of annual earnings pushed you into the exchange at $40 a month and $2250 annual out of pocket maximum. That means that a person could have to earn $2730 in after tax income, plus whatever increase in insurance costs through the exchange resulting from addition income to get to the point where where they would not have to pay for any more health care, the default of MediCal. I kept running those additional insurance cost through the calculator till at $18,994 in pre-tax income to break even. But that doesn't include how much more it would take when counting additional tax obligations on those higher earnings. What this shows is a kind of huge implicit penalty that can occur when there are cutoff cliffs to government benefits.

The same sort of threshold cliff in the insurance exchange happens again with a dollar more income than 400% of the federal poverty level, but with much more impact from taxes. I think that citizens using the health exchange deserve to know how they could be punished economically for earning more money that crosses the cliff thresholds so that they are actually worse off than those who earn less until they earn thousands more than the thresholds levels.

So I did the calculation here and if you make 16 Thousand dollars a year

Your Obamacare tax is 41 dollars a month with 2250 dollars Max out of pocket costs. 1 dollar less in income and you pay nothing for Medicaid

I still don't get why the word 'weird' is getting replaced with 'safe and clean'. Makes no sense at all. Like everyone doesn't want safe and clean - how does that set us apart? I just feel like we're better than that, and it just seems silly how we're putting so much emphasis on that word.

Thanks for using the app, Steve. Hope we can iron out glitches over time. It's tied to a content management system that needs an upgrade and we're scheduled to receive that update, giving us better tools for all mobile apps, and hopefully reducing crashes.

I use the iPad App regularly. It crashes quite often and is very unstable, a slight touch and it moves you to a different place. Quite annoying but better then nothing. Mostly.
